This two bedroom cottage is a real river getaway , offering a great space for guests to unwind. The easterly aspect with views of the spectacular Mt. White sandstone escarpments captures the morning light while the vast wetland flats to the northwest invite guests to kick back on the terrace day bed and simply while away the afternoon. A combustion timber fire is in place warming the cottage on cooler nights. Reverse cycle air conditioning is also in place for the warmer days.
The kitchen adjoins the main lounge & bar. Many of the original features remain, but with a full complement of kitchen utensils & a modern two drawer stainless dishwasher, this is a kitchen that invites guests to really have fun preparing food. A huge BBQ on the rear deck & a commercial glass door fridge make entertaing friends & family an absolute breeze.

WHAT TO DO
• On the edge of the adjoining wetland, a short boardwalk leads to a tidal creek, the ideal place to drop a line over for that elusive fish.
• Guests can also explore the river via two kayaks stored at rear of the cottage.
• Table tennis & a second TV , (with foxtel) in the rumpus room, gives plenty of options for relaxing.
• It is just a short distance by car to the start of several bush walks that lead in to Dharug National Park.
• Make this a stopover on a round trip Sydney hinterland tour & incorporate lunch at the Wisemans Pub
• The Spencer Store has a great breakfast/ lunch menu for those wanting to cook as little as possible.
• For a special occasion you may wish to discuss a boat trip to Peats Bite Restaurant
• Take a round trip scenic drive to St. Albans following the Mcdonald River ( a tributary of the Hawkesbury ) and stopping for lunch at the St Albans pub.
• Book a round of golf at the Mangrove Mountain Golf Club - 9 holes of 'rugged terrain'
• Wollembi & Broke ( in the Hunter Valley ) are wonderful destinations for a day trip w/ lunch
TRANSPORT
By car travel north from Sydney on the Pacific Highway & F3 Freeway. Spencer is approximately 50 minutes drive from the beginning of the F3 Freeway, crossing the Hawkesbury River, & after the Mt White exit, taking the Mangrove Mountain exit. Follow the signs to Mangrove Mountain, & turn left on Wisemans Ferry Rd. The journey is especially scenic, so if you can, travel before dark.
The return journey can be taken in the opposite direction via Wisemans Ferry & the Old Northern Rd,
Hire of Self Drive Runabout definitely not suitable
Own Boat trailer boat can be launched at Mellaluca Park, next door ( small fee applies )
RESTAURANTS & CAFES
Spencer Village Store & Cafe serving legendary big breakfasts, great hamburgers & snacks. Truly the 'Hub of the Universe'. Also supplying a good range of meat, some vegetables & just about everything else you may need. Licensed Bottle Shop as well. Kitchen closes 2.00pm Phone 4377 1123
Settlers Arms Inn - St Albans offers real food & real history. Open for lunch daily & dinner Friday, Saturday & Sunday. we would however recommend this as a lunch destination to enjoy the drive & views. Call 4568 2111 to make a reservation. Menu changes weekly.
Wisemans Ferry Inn is ideally visited on the way to or from Spencer. The bistro menu is wide ranging & the atmosphere is relaxed. Weekdays bistro is open for lunch till 2.30pm & dinner 6-8.30pm. Weekends the bistro simply runs from 12.30 till 8.30pm. Call 4566 4301for more information
Peats Bite weekends only, advance bookings essential, 02 9985 9040 - closed July/Aug. A great place for a long relaxed lunch, in one of the most beautiful & unique locations on the river. $110.00pp ( licensed ) You will need to book well in advance for your boat transfers from Spencer to Peats Bite. Wollembi & Broke in Hunter Valley Wollembi is a scenic 1 hours drive ( approx.) via Mangrove Mountain. The local pub & cafes are well woth a stop, or continue on to lunch & wine tasting at one of the Broke wineries approx another 30 km from Wollembi
